The Bait & Switch of Beverly Hills Med Spas

Tyler: Welcome back to The Supreme Skin Podcast, broadcasting from the clinical sanctuary at 9100 Wilshire Boulevard. It's your Skin Savant, Tyler, and I am sitting here today with my absolutely favorite Beverly Wilshire Aesthetics doctor... Dr. Behnoush Zarrini! Doctor, how are we doing today?

Dr. Zarrini: Well Tyler, did we hire another doctor and you didn't tell me? I thought I was the only physician here! But really, doing great, Tyler. Ready to get into it.

Tyler: Oh, we are getting into it today. We're stepping away from the anatomy lessons (thank God!) for a second because we need to talk about what’s actually happening out in these Beverly Hills streets.

Dr. Zarrini: Oh, this is new. My notes are all about Botox again. Before I toss these out, it's for sure not about Botox today?

Tyler: No Dr. Z, we will get back to your list of "my favorite things" again next week, I promise. Today's topic is probably going to make you hungry though, Doctor. We are discussing one of the aesthetics industry's original sins: Bait & Switch.

Dr. Zarrini: Oh my god Tyler... you're so dumb! The fast food chains of medical spas! Is that why you said that? It's not even funny.

Tyler: Exactly! You guys know exactly what we're talking about. You're stuck doom-scrolling TikTok, and suddenly—you get hit with an ad: "Hi. I'm Celebrity Dermatologist and I'm here to show you how my clients are walking out of my office happy, healthy, and with perfect pearlescent skin for just $99!" And people actually book.

Dr. Zarrini: Oh my god, I know exactly who you're talking about! Yes! I saw that the other day on my feed, and to be honest, I almost booked too!

Tyler: That's too funny. You would! And yes—it's 100% who you think it is.

Dr. Zarrini: I knew it!!!

Tyler: Yes!!! But really guys, if you haven't realized how that story unfolds yet—because you've probably experienced it and even been a victim, but maybe didn't know the key signs that you just got scalped by your friendly neighborhood med spa.

Dr. Zarrini: And the experience is wild. You walk in, and before you even sit down, there’s a girl with an iPad aggressively trying to sell you a subscription. Like... am I getting a treatment or am I buying a Cabo timeshare right now?

Tyler: I don't think our younger audience actually knows what a timeshare is, Doctor. It's all just a system automation, but performed with high-fidelity humans.

They hook you with the cheap price.

They tease a big TV doctor.

They hand you a cold bottle of water....

Dr. Zarrini: ...But then you're assigned to a rotating nurse who maybe just finished a weekend course, the price is suddenly three times the advertisement price, and the celebrity doctor actually is in Cabo. At this point you're not a patient; you're a mark being targeted and hunted. And what people really don't realize—

Tyler: Wait, tell them about the dilution.

Dr. Zarrini: Yeah, the hyper-dilution. Look, neurotoxins come as a powder. The clinic has to reconstitute it with saline. If a high-volume clinic is selling it at a massive loss, what do you think is happening? They over-dilute the vial.

Tyler: Psst... Should we tell them which med spas in Beverly Hills are rumored to do that?

Dr. Zarrini: Is it the same one from the ad I almost fell for?

Tyler: Look, I’m not saying it's the place with the pink neon sign down the block... but I’m not not saying it either.

Dr. Zarrini: Tyler! Stop! Oh my god, my malpractice insurance is sweating right now.

Tyler: But really everyone, do your research and stay diligent. You'd be surprised at how many different, clever ways the industry has developed to trick you. If the celebrity doctor is invisible and the price suddenly requires a payment plan? Run! Go! Save yourself! You’re being switched.

Dr. Zarrini: And remember, if the deal looks too good to be true, you're probably just paying for a very expensive bottle of cold water.

Tyler: A very cold, very corporate bottle of water. Do your research, guys. Your face is worth it. Next week, we are going back to Dr. Z's "my favorite things".

Dr. Zarrini: Botox?! Morpheus?! Oh hey... Can you grab my notes from the trash? I have to run.

Tyler: Are you serious? If there are any MDs listening out there, send in your applications, the Maison is hiring a physician.

Dr. Zarrini: Don't you even. I really do have to go! Bye everyone!

Tyler: See you guys next week from the clinical sanctuary. I have to find these notes now; bye-bye.
